Duration of the courses:

The duration of the MBBS course is 5years divided into 10 semesters of 6 months each from the date of commencement of the course & the duration of BDS course is 4years (8semesters); followed by 1 year compulsory Rotating Internship. The period of 5 years MBBS course is divided into 3 phases.

            MBBS                                                            

            Phase I                         (I to III Semesters)                  

            Phase II                      (IV to VI Semesters)             

            Phase III                      (VII to X Semesters)               

University Examination:

The University of Mauritius appoints external examiners and moderators of international repute for conducting examinations at the end of each phase. Prof. Eric Harley, MD, Ph. D., F.R.C. Path., (UK) of the University of Cape Town, South Africa was the examination coordinator for the University Examination for the year 2001/2003 and Prof. Peter Gray, MD, Ph.D. F.R.C. Path., (Cambridge) of the University of North Durham, U.K. has been the examination coordinator for the University Examination.

They are assisted by renowned  MCI & DCI approved External Examiners from reputed Indian Institutions like Lady Hardinge, University College of Medical Sciences Delhi, St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore & KGMU, Lucknow.

Examination consists of Theory, Practical and Viva voce. An examination fee @ US$100 per subject shall be payable by the candidates for appearing in the University Exams for regular as well as resit exam.

Candidates who fail in the 1st professional examination will not be allowed to enter Phase II. The candidate shall pass all Phase II subjects before appearing in exam for Phase III subjects, though entry into Phase III is allowed. After the Phase III Final Professional examination, successful candidates have to undergo one-year compulsory rotating internship. 80% physical attendance will be necessary for each University Examination.

Commencement of the Courses:

The course for the overseas students commences on 2nd Monday of November. Vacations are planned every year, in the month of December / January.
