Course

Duration of the courses:

The duration of the MBBS course is 5years divided into 10 semesters of 6 months each from the date of commencement of the course & the duration of BDS course is 4years (8semesters); followed by 1 year compulsory Rotating Internship. The period of 5 years MBBS course is divided into 3 phases.

MBBS:    5Years +   Internship : 10 Semesters of 6 months each.                                                       

            Phase I                         (I to III Semesters)                 

            Phase II                      (IV to VI Semesters)             

            Phase III                      (VII to X Semesters)

INTERNSHIP in Mauritius:

In view of the National Medical Commission (NMC) of India Notfn. dated 18th Nov.2021; the Ministry of Health & Wellness, Govt. of Mauritius has agreed to arrange for the internship of Indian Students in the Govt. hospitals there (vide MoH, Govt. of Mauritius Letter no.MHC/MC/RG/FS dated 19th May, 2022) and arrangements would be in place in due course i.e. by the time students admitted in 2022 reach their final year.

            

Minimum Eligibility for Admission to MBBS:

CBSE/ICSE/State Board Students: Aggregate 60% marks at class 12 in Physics, Chemistry , Biology and/or English and NEET Pass.

South African Board Students:        Aggregate 60% marks at class 12 in Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and English

Senior Cambridge/A-Level Students: Total 22 Points in Science Subjects & English(Grade A=10; B=8, C=6 & D=4 points)

Post Graduate Courses- M.D./M.S*:

The Post Graduate Courses in 5 specialities of Medicine, Surgery, Radiodiagnosis, Anaesthesiology and Ophthalmology have been approved by the University of Mauritius and by the Medical Council of Mauritius. 

The Clinical Training Framework Agreement for clinical training of our P.G. students at the Victoria hospital has been signed with the Ministry of Health & Quality of Life, Republic of Mauritius.      (vide Agreement dated 13.6.2013). 

The P.G. Courses are scheduled to commence once the concurrence, which is already under process, is received from the TEC. 

The P.G. Courses in remaining subjects would commence in phases.

Minimum Eligibility for Admission in P.G.:

Graduation+Internship+ Valid Registration with the Medical Council in the respective native Country.

University Examination:

The University of Mauritius appoints external examiners and moderators of international repute for conducting examinations at the end of each phase. Eminent Professors viz. Prof. Eric Harley, MD, Ph. D., F.R.C. Path., (UK) of the University of Cape Town, South Africa and Prof. Peter Gray, MD, Ph.D. F.R.C. Path., (Cambridge) of the University of North Durham, U.K. have been the examination coordinator for the University Examination.

They are assisted by renowned  MCI & DCI approved External Examiners from reputed Indian Institutions like Lady Hardinge, University College of Medical Sciences Delhi, St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore & KGMU, Lucknow.

Examination consists of Theory, Practical and Viva voce. (OSCE, OSCP)

An examination fee @ US$100 per subject shall be payable by the candidates for appearing in the University Exams for regular as well as resit exam.

Candidates who fail in the 1st professional examination will not be allowed to enter Phase II. The candidate shall pass all Phase II subjects before entering Phase III. After the Phase III Final Professional examination, successful candidates have to undergo one-year compulsory rotating internship. 80% physical attendance will be necessary for each University Examination.

De-registration:

The course shall be completed by the student in a given time and all the exams have to be passed in given number of attempts, as approved by the Senate of the University from time to time; failing which the UoM rules regarding de-registration of the student from the course shall be binding.The Students are required to know and note these rules before joining the Course and to abide by the University rules is their solely their responsibility. Ignorance of University rules shall not be a reason to claim any exemption from such rules or claim for any additional attempt for appearing in University Examinations as the College and University adheres to these rules strictly without any exception

Commencement of the Courses:


The intake is twice a year wef. Aug. 2017; once in the month of August and once in the month of February every year.

The students will have the option to join either of the batches. The 2 weeks introductory classes will commence in the month of September and March every year followed by regular classes.

The familiarisation course for the overseas students for MBBS commence on 2nd Monday of September and March every year . Vacations are planned every year, in the month of December / January and June. (For Details College Calendar on the College Notice Board may be seen).

For Students from South Africa, whose results are available towards the mid of December, the interviews for provisional selection are generally conducted in Durban towards the 3rd week of February at the address advertised in the local News Papers. The Students must have aggregate 60% marks in Physical Sciences, Life Sciences (not Life Orientation) and English.

On preliminary selection after interview at Durban , the shortlisted candidates shall be required to reach the College in Mauritius within a week for final verification of their original marksheets/ papers etc by the "Admission Panel" and for joining the Course.

The Course formally commences immediately after confirmation of all admissions by the Admission Panel in the 3rd/last week of Feb. 

The Registration fee  shall have to be deposited before joining the Course and the 1st installment of fee shall be deposited within next 30 days.

The applicant shall retain a print out of such "Admission Form" after submitting the same and shall inform immediately his name and Admission Form no. along with scanned copy of class 12th or equivalent mark sheet at our e-mail address: iomitssrmc@hotmail.com for speedy processing.
